Desert passage by Leafangel Desert passage by Leafangel
I created this after watching Dax's new video on erosion using the power of Vue and World Machine.
The original terrain was built in Vue as a procedural before converting it to a standard at a resolution of 4096 x 4096. I exported it as a height map which I brought into World Machine to erode.
The final height map has been applied to a standard terrain with a resolution of 4096 x 4096 pixels. The atmosphere is GR.

Thanks. I think I've improved a lot over the last year or so and I'm very proud of my newer 3D works.

Beautiful stuff! I'll have to look into Vue a bit more... Have you used Terragen (2) at all before?

I've never used any version of Terragen before. I went straight from Bryce to Vue.I daren't even download the demo because I'd only end up wanting to buy it and have yet another bit of software to learn.

I hear that! The wanting to buy yet another piece of software that you *might* learn... But great stuff, you've really got a handle on Vue!

 I am happy that you like my work. I feel, however, that dA is a much better place to get feedback and help than at C3D, because it's not restricted to Vue. But maybe that's just me...

Nah, it's not just you. The feedback you can get from Devart can be a lot stronger because you have a much wider variety of artists who each have their own experiences and knowledge to share.
Don't get me wrong, I love C3D and enjoy sharing my work there, but there's something about having a wider perspective on things.

Damn, it makes me want Worldmachine now, you just don't get canyons like this in-Vue  nice lighting and atmosphere too :)

World Machine's definitely worth. I love Geocontrol too but I'm finding World Machine so much better. It has the added bonus of being able to see the changes you make as you go along in the small preview window before generating a height map. Saves a tonne of time.
It's one of very few pieces where I've pushed the aerial perspective above 1 and I'm very pleased I did as it works very nicely.

I am constantly surprised by the power of CG tools these days. So now you can create a mountain, and use the program to erode it? That's boss.

So am I. It's amazing to think how much it has all evolved in such a short space of time and there's no signs of slowing down either.
With Vue and World Machine you can create a whole lot more than mountains. Dunno what I'd do without them.

Thank you . I have a feeling I may get a little addicted to this method of creation. Next time I'll create distribution maps as well to get some practice and more control as I'd like to add an ecosystem to the next one.
